After humping it for 4 days and 3 nights from Glacier National Park to Tok Alaska, I decided to stay in the Tok area. When looking on line I saw a state park called Eagle Trail and it is first come first served, no reservations. I decided to give it a go and head to the park. Well the good news is I got a spot as there was only 1 other camper here when I arrived and they are on the opposite side of the campground so I don’t see them at all. I did encounter a second camper after being here for over 2 hours but they are in another loop. I only saw them come in their vehicle, and then walk to the payment station. The park has two hiking trails with the first being a nature trail, 1 mile, and the second is a hike to the Tok river, 2.5 miles. There are vault toilets here at the park but they are clean and don’t smell. Water is available at the fee station with a well hand pump. A sign at the pump says the well is deep so at least 30 pumps to get water out of the pump. There is a spigot to fill up you water jug but I think you need two hands for that and then two to pump so it appears to be a two person job, I will find out.
I have to say that if the campground was full you would be right on top of people as the spots are close together. Even with the spots close together in a loop, there are 4 loops, the trees are plentiful. Having nobody in the campground you can hear the wind blowing through the trees, it is so cool.
