The park is a campground and day use park operated by the Oregon start park system. The campground has sites for tents (no water or electricity), full hookups and even Yurts you can rent. The have multiple restroom houses and each of them within the campground have showers! A guy like me may take a shower or more a day since I have access to a shower and at no cost right from my campsite. The campground is right on the beach with a loop of full hookups on the beach and across the street from the beach. My site being a tent site is about 150 yards from the beach, not too bad for a guy like me. There are many trees in the campground so plenty of shade is to be had, but bad for solar panels. The beach access point for the campground is right next to my site along with the restroom so lots of foot traffic. A down point of my site is that the guy across from me is a smoker so plenty of cigarette smoke coming my way off the beach. The guy also has 4 tents and a camper on his site with an additional 2 cars so backing into/out of my spot will be hard. I only have to leave tomorrow with them here and then after tomorrow no driving for me until I leave on the 22nd (happy birthday Jack and Stephanie) of the month. Disappointment on the first night as it was leaning towards a great sunset but it did not pan out at a great sunset. I do have 3 more nights to give it a try to see a great sunset. The great thing about state parks, most of them, they have showers! I was able to get a shower this am and the water was hot and it made me very happy for a free shower. Sleeping with the ocean waves was nice. The campground/park is just off of the 101 so you hear traffic noises more than you would like during the day but at night the traffic dies down. Not so much a drawback that you don’t want to stay here but just a little annoyance. I also find it interesting that my neighbor the beverly hillbillies have two blue tarps at the back of their site so nobody can see them from that side. All the tents and campers provide cover on the other 3 sides. Guess witness protection…
The sunset was shut out again tonight, night 3 due to the fog bank that rolled in. I have another night before I have to go onward so fingers crossed for tomorrow night. Today was a day on the beach listening to waves and reading my book. A great day if I say so myself. The hillbillies left today and the tents and tarps are gone and it seemed that they were giving away a tent, BBQ grill, mattress and other items from their campsite. Guess they did not want to take them home and it was funny the did not leave until after 1300 since they had so much crap to pack up.
I went for a walk on the beach today and got to see “the big stump” on the beach. The stump is a giant redwood and is the forest north of any known redwood and it grew in the area about 1,200 years ago. The tree is estimated to be 150 years old when it became a stump, so long time as a stump. Interestingly, the stump is currently in the middle of the beach and I was drawn to it because it was a log standing up. Little did I know that the log standing up was a stump of a giant redwood. Seeing this tree gets me excited for when I am going to be in the redwood forest later in the month as this was a big tree at one time.
